The Galapagos dove is a species of bird in the family Columbidae and is endemic to the Galapagos Islands, meaning it is found nowhere else. This bird is fairly common across the archipelago and thrives in a variety of open and semi-open habitats, particularly in the arid lowlands. The Galapagos dove typically grows to a length of 18–23 cm (7.1–9.1 in) and weighs between 67–92 g (2.4–3.2 oz). It has a distinctive long black bill that curves slightly downward. Its feet and legs are reddish with a hint of purple. The bird’s plumage is striking, with dark reddish-brown upperparts, a pinkish neck and breast, a buff-colored belly, and brown wings that are streaked with white and black. These markings make the Galapagos dove a bold and recognizable species within its native range.
